Preliminary Artwork

You will not be surprised to learn that the design process generates a lot of rough drawings and design sketches. Once Boris has finalised his design (or designs since he may work on alternative designs simultaneously) he will often produce a final sketch (or sketches) to show the client. Throughout the Borisography I have used the term preliminary to distinguish these final sketches from the earlier workings. It should be noted that depending on the clients' comments Boris may amend his design or even, in extreme cases, produce a totally new one either of which could result in the production of further preliminaries.

Potentially there are numerous preliminaries around but, sadly, most of them do not get published. This is a pity since many are works of art in their own right which may vary from a simple monochrome cartoon, to a water-colour or to a detailed set of drawings (such as might be required where, say, a third party has to produce a sculpture.) Some of the preliminaries are included in other pages on the site but many are not so I have included them all on this page. The table shows the final art on the right with all preliminaries to the left of that. It should be noted that a blank righthand column means that the final artwork was not commissioned. In other cases the final artwork or an intermediate preliminary is not known to me.
