This book is the novelisation of Gordon Williams' film script for an uncompleted Harry Saltzman project which originated, so far as Williams is concerned, in 1976. Boris was commissioned to paint the cover and also 12 internal pen and ink illustrations. Each drawing has a caption of one or two lines - too long to be considered titles but I have included them here.
The gist of the story is that a group of captured men and women are reduced to about ⅛ normal size and have to survive an escape through their captor's garden encountering all sorts of dangers from the wildlife therein. The book was successful enough that Williams wrote 2 sequels but, sadly, they did not feature Boris artwork.
As far as I can tell this has no connection with the toy/comic/book series of the same name which originated at about the same time.
From the nose of a black and yellow helicopter came a spurt of white flame. | Khomich went on ahooting from a standing position, right arm fully extended, taking careful aim for each shot. | "Well…there is project Arcadia." said Jany. |
"When I crossed over, he left a canary in a cage. It was as big as an eagle." | Carr tried to run and tripped, falling beside the petrified Magruder. He fired again. | Out came the tipped head of something as big as a boa constrictor. |
"It's dragging me down. Help me, help me!" | In the half-light of dusk he found himself surrounded by furry monsters from a dream. | A body had sidled out of the shadows and grabbed Robinson in its ferocious jaws. |
Two medium-sized workers were approaching the other entrance. | "Hurry up, Bruce," Khomich shouted, swinging his stick viciously from side to side. | Above them, their circle of sky was a red and yellow furnace. |
