The Chess King chain of clothing stores first opened in March 1968. Catering for the male teen/young adult fashions market, the business flourished until the late '80s when a subsequent decline led to its ultimate demise in November 1995.
Whilst the business was at its peak, Boris was engaged to produce a series of advertisements, completing 17 paintings during the years 1985 through to 1988. The paintings were mostly of a science fiction/fantasy theme and were very well appreciated. In addition to being used extensively for the brand's advertising, the paintings were also produced as large posters, presumably for in-store display. As can be seen in Chess King Christmas below, the incorporation of the company's logo was not intrusive so the ads, and the posters (which are of very good quality,) are quite nice collectible items.
The table below shows the 17 paintings in alphabetic order but it should be borne in mind that there may also be others that I don't know of. I imagine that all the artwork was of the same proportions, approximately 2:3, but many of the thumbnails below differ from this slightly due, no doubt, to the images being cropped when reproduced in other publications.
